International students provide opportunity to taste their culture

International students enrolled at Central Wyoming College share a bit of their culture and traditions during the “Taste of Culture,” a buffet of international fare scheduled for Saturday, January 23 at the First Baptist Church at 840 N. First Street in Riverton.

CWC has students from the Ukraine, China, Malawi, Brazil, Canada, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, Serbia, Australia and Italy, and they are preparing family recipes for the buffet-style event scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the church.

“Most people in the community don’t realize we have students from all these countries,” said Mike Myers, an advisor for the International Club. “It’s a lot of fun and a way for people in the community to meet the students.” The students serve their own creations and will share the roots of the traditional meals with the diners. “The food has always been good,” Myers said. “It’s food that you usually don’t get in Riverton.”

With each student preparing their own recipes, Myers said there are plenty of choices for participants. Past Taste of Culture events have been very successful. “A year later they talk about the previous year,” Myers said.

Tickets are $7 for children 4-11; $10 for people who are 12 and older and under 3 are admitted for free. CWC students can purchase tickets for $7. Patrons can purchase tickets directly from the Arts Center Box Office beginning Jan. 19 or reserve tickets by calling 855-2002.The tickets can be held at the door of the church. A limited number of general admissions tickets will be sold at the door.
