College Goal Sunday January 31

Parents of college-bound students should get their 2009 tax information gathered in time for College Goal Sunday, a January 31 event at Central Wyoming College that assists those applying for federal financial aid.
College Goal Sunday is also being held at CWC’s Lander Center. Additional events are scheduled at Fremont and Hot Springs county high schools in February and March.
The program at CWC is scheduled for 1-3 p.m. in Main Hall at CWC. Similar program are scheduled at the same time at the CWC Lander Center at 427 Main.
Participating students are eligible for drawings, which includes $13,750 in scholarships.
While at the College Goal Sunday sites, parents and students receive assistance from experts and volunteers in completing the complicated Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. Students should attend with a parent who needs to bring estimated or completed 2009 1040 tax return, W-2 forms, or other 2009 income and benefits information.
Coordinator Kristy Salisbury said the FAFSA form can be intimidating so CWC is bringing in volunteer financial aid experts to help parents and students with this important first step. Most colleges and universities require the FAFSA form when students apply for any type of student aid, including scholarships.
Students who attend any of the College Goal Sunday events are automatically entered into drawings for educational prizes.
College Goal Sunday is sponsored by CWC, USA Funds, Interagency Community Coalition and Educational Talent Search.
