Free Concert in Lander, WY

Central Wyoming College music professor Steve Traylor performs contemporary neo-romantic works on his bass trombone during a 7:30 p.m. concert at the Lander branch of the Fremont County Library Tuesday, February 4.

While there is no charge for the concert, tickets are required because of the limited space in the Carnegie Room of the library. Tickets may be picked up at the CWC Lander Center or at the CWC Box Office, located in the Robert A. Peck Arts Center on the CWC campus in Riverton.

Accompanied by pianist and good friend Tom Giomi, Traylor has performed with numerous concert bands and orchestras as well as with major recording artists.

As a free-lance musician, Traylor has played with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the Colorado Ballet, the Central City Opera, Colorado Music Festival Orchestra and the Denver Municipal Band. In addition, Traylor also plays with the Fat City Mardi Gras Band, the Neophonic Jazz Orchestra, the Queen City Jazz Band and Dixieland Express.

Traylor, who is the director of bands at CWC and the recruiter for the fine arts department, has performed with Andrea Bocelli, Mel Torme, Frankie Valli, the Four Tops, The Drifters, Kenny Rogers, Bob Hope, Steve Allen, Harry Connick and several more.

When it is possible, Traylor’s music is enhanced from the energy of his trusted piano accompanist Giomi, a member of the Paiute Tribe. Giomi began playing the piano at age 10 and was awarded a full scholarship to participate in the Aspen Music Festival at 17 where he studied with Virginia Westrom of Michigan University, and Nancy Stessin and John Nowman, both of the Julliard School of Music.

Giomi has a master’s degree in piano performance and has been invited to perform during the International Trumpet Guild at the Center for the Performing Arts in Denver. He maintains a teaching studio in Evergreen, Colo., and is the accompanist for the Waldorf School in Denver.

Giomi also presents a piano workshop on “Piano Technique and Performance Practice for Working Musicians” at CWC on Friday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. in room 157 of the Robert A. Peck Arts Center.

The workshop is open to high school and college students, piano and music teachers and piano enthusiasts. For more information, contact Steve Traylor at (307) 855-2214.
