2010 Fall semester has begun

Now that we are in our second week of classes, things are settling down as students and staff get into their routines.  We’ve done some serious slacking over the summer on this blog!  Nothing has been posted since May! All that is about to change now that we have been energized by the GREAT convocation ceremony yesterday.

If you didn’t attend, you missed a real good time!  Students and staff were treated to Words of Welcome from CWC’s president, Jo Anne McFarland, along with our new Vice President, Jason S. Wood, Faculty Association president, Jane Warren, and Student Senate president, Chloe Skaggs.

Following the Words of Welcome two long time CWC professors received the honor of Professor Emeritus.  Professor Margaret Peart joined the CWC faculty in 1970 part-time.  She became a full-time instructor in 1982 and continued teaching until she retired in 2009.  Professor Rob Richards left his accounting firm to teach at CWC full-time in 1986; he retired in 2009.  Professors Peart and Richards join 20 others in CWC’s four decade history to receive the Professor Emeritus distinction.

Afterwards, Keynote speaker Michael Johnson, former university professor & author of eight books, shared a unique blend of academic and real-life experiences.  A free BBQ along with games were offered on the Quad at noon.  Many clubs and outside organizations provided information for students new to CWC during the afternoon activities.  At two o’clock students and staff were treated to a Social Powwow.  An Honor Dance took place for our new Vice-President, Jason S. Wood.  If you would like to watch the ceremony, check it out on our CWCRustlerTV channel on Youtube.

See you around campus!
